The Austin and Dallas divisions of McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc., (MHI), parent company of Coventry Homes, Plantation Homes and Wilshire Homes, have been named LEED Homes Power Builders for 2017.
The divisions were two of only four Texas builders to receive the designation, which denotes excellence in the residential green building marketplace, and the only production builder in the state to earn the title. To qualify as a LEED Homes Power Builder, developer and builders must have LEED-certified 90 percent of their homes/units built during 2016. In all, only 24 builders throughout the nation qualified in the recently announced awards.
“We made a commitment years ago to prioritize sustainability in our building practices,” said Gary Tesch, MHI president. “In fact, when we started following the LEED for Homes mandates in Austin and Dallas, we were the only production builder in those areas doing so.”
Coventry Homes and Plantation Homes build throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with pricing from the $240,000s. McGuyer Homebuilders has been building LEED-certified homes in the marketplace since 2010.
In Austin, Coventry Homes and Wilshire Homes have been building to LEED standards since 2012. The builders offer homes priced from the $240,000s in 22 area developments.
Created in 2008, the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes rating system is a way for single- and multi-family homes to achieve certification. Qualifying projects undergo a rigorous process to become certified including multiple on-site inspections and diagnostic tests. Building mandates include measures for water conservation, indoor air quality, energy efficiency that exceeds local codes by at least 15 percent, use of environmentally preferable products, minimal construction waste and ground protection during the construction process.
McGuyer Homebuilders also offers homes in Houston and San Antonio. It is considered one of the nation’s largest homebuilders and is ranked No. 36 on the Builder 100 list compiled by BUILDER magazine.
